Newsies

Well helloooo after a long hiatus! I will try to update the races I haven't written about yet, which includes GNACs, NCAA Regional, and my first indoor track meet of the season, but first I have some exciting news!

My friend Steph and I are all set and registered for the Hyannis Half Marathon on February 28, 2010! I'm really really excited about it! My roommate Christina and a couple of the other girls on the team may run it as well, and DWalsh and Johnson are running the full marathon, so it'll be a fun weekend for sure. This will be the longest race I've done, a whooping 13.1 miles in the biting cold of February. The longest I've ever run is somewhere in the neighborhood of 10 miles, so I'm looking forward to pumping up the miles and doing some loooooonnggg runs.
The problem right now is that I'm home for winter break, so Steph and I can't train together for a whole month. The other problem is that I hate every single route I could possibly do from my house. I really dislike running in Lowell. Newton is a much better running community, and you can literally go out in endless directions. Lowell is more constraining because its a busy city and a lot of the streets are set in a grid form and the river kind of breaks things up into weird sections. Ugh. On top of that, it's winter, meaning SNOW and ICE and WIND and BELOW FREEZING TEMPERATURES. Not my style. I don't mind getting bundled up because I'm a pro at layering, but when the sidewalks are not cleared and there is ice and snow everywhere it makes it hard to get in a decent run.

That being said, I'm considering getting a one month membership to a gym if possible. I hate treadmills, but I feel like it might be necessary this break. I want to try to do most of my runs outside, but it would be clutch to have the option of a treadmill if running on the roads becomes too dangerous or we have crazy snowstorms that prevent me from getting out.
