Yesterday I ran the Louise Rossetti 5k in Beverly, MA. It was a really great race, lots of fun. My time was 22:08 and I came in 22nd overall and 3rd in my age group. I'm really happy with my time. I don't consider myself in "racing shape" by any means because I haven't done any speed/track or tempo workouts since the winter. I'm excited to see how I do this cross country season because last fall I was running high 21s/low 22s on average during my peak of XC season.
I went out way faster than I meant to. I wanted to go out pretty easy in the first mile... like between 7-7:30, but instead I went out in 6:40 for the first mile. I paid for it and had a tough 2nd mile coming through in 14:18, or around a 7:38 mile. I made up a lot of ground in the last mile though, coming through the last 1.1 in 7:50, which is about a 7:07 mile. Next race I do (which will most likely be June 30th) I'll be way more conservative going out for the first mile. I'm hoping that going out in a 7:00 mile will feel slow, or much slower than race pace should feel.
I got a medal for being a top 50 finisher and a trophy for coming in 3rd for my age group! I had a nice cheering section of my mom, grandmother, aunt, and cousin, which was nice.
I'll be in Florida in 1 day! Probably won't update while I'm gone, but I'll be back the 27th.

Congratulations on the race! I know what you mean about that first mile...it's tough to go out slow. You're all amped up, and then you hear the gun go off and you just take off without even realizing how fast you're going. I need to try to get some 5K and 10Ks in soon. Have fun in Florida!
Congrats on the race! That is an awesome time!
